VALIDATE launches Latin America and Caribbean Regional Sub-Committee

VALIDATE launched its new Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) Regional Sub-Committee at the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West, South Africa, following the VALIDATE Annual Meeting.

The new Committee brings together VALIDATE members committed to strengthening vaccine research, collaboration and career development across Latin America and the Caribbean. It is chaired by Dr Maria Adelaida Gomez of CIDEIM, Colombia, and VALIDATE Co-Director, with Dr Luciana Balboa of Argentina serving as Co-Chair.

During today’s inaugural meeting, members discussed the principal challenges affecting research and career advancement across the region and explored practical ways in which VALIDATE could better support regional researchers and strengthen collaboration within and beyond the Network.

The Committee aims to:

  • Advance collaborative research and innovation in vaccines and neglected diseases across Latin America and the Caribbean
  • Build scientific and technical capacity within regional institutions
  • Promote career development opportunities, particularly for early-career researchers
  • Strengthen regional coordination, resource mobilisation and knowledge exchange
  • Ensure that regional perspectives and priorities are represented within the wider VALIDATE Network

The LAC Regional Sub-Committee has been launched alongside VALIDATE’s new Africa Regional Sub-Committee. Together, the committees will help VALIDATE better understand and respond to the priorities of members across both regions.
