VALIDATE ECR Workshop 2026 - Grant Writing
The day began with introductions and an interactive exercise exploring who was in the room and the connections between delegates. Participants used a world map to identify their locations, research links and potential collaborators across the VALIDATE network, helping to highlight opportunities for new connections and future applications.

The morning sessions then explored how to understand funders and grant calls, including how to identify appropriate funding opportunities and think about what funders are looking for. Delegates moved on to the practical process of developing a proposal, looking at the Aims Page, project description, project statement and rationale and considering how to communicate the importance and potential impact of their research clearly.

In the afternoon, the workshop focused on developing clear objectives and using Logic Models to link project activities with intended outputs, outcomes and impact. Sessions also covered project timelines and budgets before concluding with troubleshooting, common challenges and final grant-writing tips.
Throughout the day, delegates were encouraged to apply the approaches being discussed to their own research ideas and applications. This practical element was one of the aspects most frequently praised in the feedback.

Feedback on the workshop was extremely positive, with 100% of delegates reporting that they would recommend it to colleagues. Delegates also praised the facilitators' enthusiasm, expertise and approachable style.

The day concluded with an informal workshop dinner at Kokaú Restaurant, giving delegates an opportunity to continue conversations and strengthen connections made during the workshop.
