Weekly round-up #13

Weekly round-up #13

This week we've confirmed the 1st VALIDATE seminar: “Correlates of risk of TB disease and their back-translation into animal models” by Drs Andrea Zelmer & Helen Fletcher from LSHTM. This will be live-streamed on Wed 6th Dec at 12.30 UK time, so make sure you pull up a chair and log on to what promises to be a very interesting talk about research that could be widely applicable across pathogens. Details on this and all our seminars can be found here.

A couple of calls of interest have popped up this week:

Funding opportunities: the Daniel Turnberg Travel Fellowships have opened; these are for early career researchers to form collaborations between the UK and Middle East. Closes Jan 2018

Job opportunities: Reader in One Health, University of Liverpool (based in Ethiopia)

Events: European Melioidosis Congress dates announced for March 2018

Twitter has been active as usual, with writing tips for Academic Writing Month, top tips on moving between academia and industry, details about the Academy of Medical Sciences' mentoring scheme for early career researchers, and flagging a talk by VALIDATE member Steve Smith on "Why does BCG protect against tuberculosis… and why does it not?" that will be livestreamed by LSHTM on 6th November. For all the news and opinions in the field, follow us @NetworkValidate.

Finally, don't forget to nominate your special co-workers for the 2017 Kochon Prize for TB researchers and developers.
