The International Day of Women and Girls in Science

Friday was the International Day of Women and Girls in Science when organisations around the world demonstrated their commitment to gender equality in STEMM. VALIDATE celebrated the day by relaunching our VALID8 interview series, this time focused on four of our amazing women members. Funding:


  • Wellcome Discovery Awards - Provides funding for established researchers to pursue bold and creative research ideas that could improve human life, health and wellbeing – deadline 24 March 2022

  • TWAS Awards - The World Academy of Scinecs provides nine awards to individual scientists who have been working and living in a developing country for at least 10 years. The cycle of the TWAS Awards is now every two years – deadline 30 March 2022

  • BBSRC Discovery Fellowships, 2022 – Fellowship to carry out independent research within a host laboratory and gain leadership skills - deadline 5 May 2022

  • Surveillance and diagnostics for antimicrobial resistance - funding to develop networks to improve diagnostic and surveillance tools for antimicrobial resistance. Your networks must include experts and stakeholders - deadline 14 June 2022

Highlights on Twitter this week:

Pfizer UK Celebrated Women and Girls in Science Day and we shared some infographics from last year’s celebration and this year’s special VALID8 interviews with members Sam Sampson, Thao-Thy Pham, Wal Dutra, and Chyntia Diaz. WriteThatPhD shared some tips for writing scientific papers and some help with using images in publications.
