The Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Pathology (MIP), within the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University invites applications for a tenure-track, 9-month appointment at the associate or full professor level. The successful candidate will participate in the Mycobacteria Research Laboratories (MRL) mission within MIP. The MRL was founded in 1986 by Dr. Patrick Brennan. Since then, the MRL has been at the forefront of mycobacterial fundamental and translational research, including vaccine, drug, diagnostic, and biomarker development for tuberculosis (TB), leprosy, and non-tuberculous mycobacterial diseases. The MRL currently has thirteen faculty members with access to exceptional facilities and resources. All faculty are internationally recognized and devoted to research and training. The faculty member will play a leadership role in mycobacterial research and work with other faculty to develop, implement and apply MRL programmatic initiatives. We are seeking a strong team player candidate with a demonstrated portfolio emphasizing mycobacteria research that is grounded in basic research with expansion into clinical and/or applied research. Successful candidates must also show success in teaching and mentoring. Career advancement in this series requires excellence in research, teaching, and service, with a specific emphasis in the capacity to make recognized contributions to CSU’s (MRL) research program. It is expected that this faculty member will play a leadership role in mycobacterial research and work with other faculty to develop, implement and apply MRL programmatic initiatives.
Required Job Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will have a Doctor of Philosophy degree (or equivalent) in microbiology or a related field.
Eligible for tenure at CSU, including: Evidence of conducting and publishing research in the study of mycobacterial diseases, including senior-level authorship in peer-reviewed manuscripts. Evidence of teaching and/or mentoring experience in the field of microbiology
Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Research emphasis in biochemistry, enzymology, molecular bacteriology, structural biology, or antimicrobial resistance
Preferred Job Qualifications:
Evidence of applying for and securing extramural funding, including contributing to broad collaborative proposals for external funding
Successful training and integration of early career researchers to the mycobacterial field
Demonstrated commitment to serving the research community at large through participation in committee functions, symposia, grant review, and related
Some knowledge and/or experience with small animal models of disease
