Overall Purpose
- To oversee and manage the diverse activities involved in the delivery of MRC’s international strategic aims including working with internal, external, and international stakeholders
- Providing the UK National Contact Point function for health research in EU Framework Programme (Horizon Europe)
- Providing support for the MRC’s European policy related activities
- Liaising with international funding partners to develop and agree upon the planning and implementation of joint initiatives
- Supporting the management of a small team – with possible line management responsibility.
Main duties/key responsibilities
- Lead the MRC’s work as UK National Contact Point for health research in EU Framework Programmes, and support the MRC’s wider European policy activities. For instance:
- develop own specialist knowledge and expertise, present information regularly to international section and other colleagues, including on Horizon Europe, relevant EU and UK policies and the UK’s association to Horizon Europe.
- Promote EU health research funding in the UK
- Provide advice to internal and external enquirers about applying for and managing EU funds
- Prepare and deliver presentations on Horizon Europe
- Gather evidence and support UK input into the development of future Horizon Europe work programmes and strategic initiatives
- Input into development of MRC’s international strategy and where appropriate UKRI international strategy:
- coordination of MRC’s key strategic international partnerships
- Delivering International Partnership activities, including joint funding calls
- Providing analysis and briefings on MRC international activities for use within the section and externally, including the gathering of evidence to inform potential new international activities and partnerships and the delivery of high-level meetings and workshops
- Researching and writing briefings on international research issues with a view to informing MRC strategy and policy development
- Project management of international strategy meetings, visits, and events, including for HIROs (the Heads of International Biomedical Research Organisations):
- managing event and meeting organisation
- writing committee papers and chairman’s briefs
- writing briefings for senior staff.
This is a flexible role and applicants will be required to conduct any other duties or projects appropriate to the post’s band as agreed with their line manager e.g., ad hoc support for special projects, additional funding calls, scientific workshops, and strategic working groups.
