We have an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Scientist in Immunology to play a key role in a new programme of work within the Vaccine Formulation Group. We are seeking an exceptional, enthusiastic and motivated scientist to work on a research project studying the immunological mechanisms of vaccine adjuvant activity in the context of new vaccine development. The project will be carried out in close partnership with the Vaccine Formulation Institute (UK/Switzerland). A series of novel vaccine adjuvants and biosimilars of current clinical adjuvants will be assessed pre-clinically in Oxford in a mouse model of malaria. This will be accompanied by a spatio-temporal characterisation of the innate and adaptive immune response across different organs.
The successful applicant will be required to manage own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management and co-ordinating multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. Work would include basic and advanced biochemical, molecular and cell biology techniques, (including but not limited to) flow cytometry, ELISA, ELISpot, qPCR and confocal microscopy, with training provided if required. Working independently, the successful candidate will be testing hypotheses and analysing scientific data, and be expected to attend appropriate scientific seminars and meetings in the Institute and University.
Applicants will have a PhD (or be near to completion) in a relevant biological sciences subject. Previous laboratory experience, in particular in mouse immunology, systematic approach to research and an ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential.
