The Department of Social and Preventive Medicine is responsible for several training requirements for which it is currently seeking to recruit a professor with expertise in international health.
The department participates in the training of students of the three cycles of study in medicine. He is responsible for teaching as part of the global health profile of the medical program, the master of public health majoring in global health, and master's and doctoral programs in epidemiology. These programs welcome many students interested in international health.
Planning for a Global Health Faculty Succession is a priority of the Global Health Policy Framework Action Plan adopted in 2015 by the Faculty of Medicine. This priority is embodied, in particular, in the creation of a professorship in international health to consolidate international health expertise for training and research at the faculty.
Job Description
- SPUL post full-time with attachment to the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine. Rank, salary and benefits will be determined based on the training and experience of the candidate, in accordance with the standards in force in the applicable collective agreement, that of the SPUL.
- This is a full-time professorship, about 50% of which will have to be dedicated to research. Faculty includes supervising graduate students and teaching at the level of training programs to which the department contributes.
Summary of the function
- The professor will have to develop an offer of relevant courses in international health in the three cycles of study of the programs of medicine, public health and epidemiology.
- The professor will be invited to develop and implement an international health research program. He or she will be eligible to apply for a Career Investigator Award and will be awarded research grants from the granting agencies.
- The professor will develop professional cooperation within the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty, and Laval University.
Selection criteria
- The candidate will hold a doctorate in the disciplines of epidemiology, community health, public health, or any other discipline deemed equivalent, as well as relevant postdoctoral training (or experience).
- He or she will have to his credit a relevant teaching experience. He or she will demonstrate their versatility and teaching skills, and their interest in contributing to international health education and coaching.
- He or she will demonstrate a proven or developing leadership in his or her field of research, will have a research file demonstrating a high level of competitiveness and methodological expertise (qualitative, quantitative or mixed) of a high level.
- He or she will be able to develop international links, contribute to the international influence of the department, and will be able to develop collaborations within the department, the faculty and the university.
- He or she will be sensitive to issues related to cultural diversity, have a team spirit and can integrate harmoniously within the department.
- He or she will have functional oral and written French language skills within the timeframe set in the contract of employment, in accordance with the policies of Université Laval.
