Research Assistant - Cellular Control of Bacterial Infection
Employer: University of Cambridge, Department of Medicine, UK
Salary: £25,728 to £29,799
Contract Type: Fixed Term
Contract Length: 2 years
Applications are invited for a Research Assistant, funded by the Wellcome Trust, to explore the host response to pathogenic bacteria as part of the group of Professor Andres Floto, based at the MRC-Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
The project will explore how macrophages interact with bacteria to identify both new host restriction factors and bacterial virulence factors. It will incorporate forward and reverse genetics, candidate gene approaches, and phenotypic analysis.
The post requires a BSc in molecular biology, immunology, microbiology or equivalent. Experience in molecular cloning, western blot analysis, and cell culture are essential. Previous experience with protein knockdown/knockout technology and working at CL2 would be advantageous, although training can be provided.
The Floto lab provides an exciting multidisciplinary research environment with strong collaborations with the WT Sanger Institute, EMBL-EBI, and University Departments of Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Engineering.
