The Hull York Medical School seek to appoint a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist with practical experience in cellular immunology, molecular pathology, data analysis and bioinformatics to study skin immune mechanisms in leishmaniasis, in the group of VALIDATE Investigator Professor Paul Kaye. The research project is funded by the NIH and involves a collaboration between the Hull York Medical School, the University of Iowa and the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte. Taking a comparative approach using cells and tissues from patients with human visceral leishmaniasis, canine leishmaniosis and murine models, you will use state of the art techniques in spatial “omics” to explore how local immunity affects onward transmission of leishmaniasis and how the immunomodulatory properties of sand fly salivary proteins are modified across the disease spectrum. The post holder will have an established track record of publications and proven experience in bioinformatics and data analysis, in addition to wet-lab skills relevant to the project. Prior experience working on infectious disease is not required. The post is based at the University of York, with opportunities to gain research experience in the USA and Brazil. The postholder will contribute to the training of research students and visiting scientists and where appropriate the teaching of undergraduate students, as well as to generating research publications and funding proposals. Funding for the post is available until June 2027.

PhD in Immunology or subject relevant to the project
Track record of research and generating research outputs
Laboratory skills relevant to the project (e.g. flow cytometry, imaging, molecular pathology) and experience of data analysis and bioinformatics
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, including some research visits overseas
High level of motivation and ability to motivate others
