We invite applications for a health systems researcher to join the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). The post-holder will be supervised by Dr Tracey Chantler and Prof Heidi Larson and will join a highly successful and supportive group, with scope to develop their own research within the field, in collaboration with LSHTM and international colleagues.
The post-holder will contribute to an interdisciplinary and collaborative project with Public Health England, Fudan University in Shanghai, and China CDC. The post-holder will be expected to use applied social science methods (qualitative and quantitative) to inform vaccination policy in China. Duties will include collaborating with senior and guiding junior colleagues in the design and conduct of research studies on a range of topics, including: (i) monitoring public and provider vaccine confidence, (ii) assessing the capacity of the Chinese public health system to deliver selected current and planned vaccines in selected geographic areas and population groups, (iii) projecting future public demand for Category II vaccines; and (iv) assessing current and future capacity of domestic vaccine manufacturers.
Candidates must have a PhD or DrPH degree in a applied health social science discipline (e.g. medical anthropology, health economics, sociology) or a Master's degree with relevant research or work experience, be fluent in English and written and spoken Chinese (e.g. Mandarin), be able to guide development, implementation, and analysis of mixed-methods field research.
The post-holder will be based at LSHTM in London but spend substantial periods of time in China. Experience in the field of immunisation research, particularly in relation to vaccine confidence and programme delivery in Asia is advantageous.
The post is available immediately and is funded until 31st July 2020.
