While tuberculosis is the biggest cause of death from a single infectious agent globally, our understanding of its natural history remains limited. The successful candidate will develop mathematical models to examine the potential and impact of new ideas on the natural history of TB as part of an ERC funded project. Work will include comparing approaches, including deterministic compartmental and stochastic individual based models as well as combining historical and new data to inform model structures and parameters.
The ideal candidate must have a PhD in mathematical modelling, statistics, epidemiology or another relevant discipline with a strong quantitative component or equivalent experience. In addition, experience in programming language and an appropriate record of publication are essential. Experience in infectious disease or quantitative TB research would be an advantage.
The post is based in London at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. It is available immediately and is funded until 31st March 2021, with the potential for extension for another 2 years. The salary will be on the Academic scale, Grade 6 in the range £38,533 - £43,759 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the USS Pension Scheme is available.
