Senior Scientist position

The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI), a biomedical and clinical research facility under the Federal Ministry of Health in Ethiopia is seeking exceptional candidates for the positions of Senior Scientist for a 2 year renewable position. AHRI’s research interests have traditionally encompassed Tuberculosis, Leprosy, Leishmaniasis, HIV and meningoococcal diseases, and more recently have been expanded to include other infectious and non-communicable diseases, including malignancies. Financially supported since its establishment in 1970 by Swedish and Norwegian organizations, AHRI more recently has received additional grant support from US and European agencies as partners in international consortiums, and as well is now receiving core funds from the Ethiopian Ministry of Health.
The Institute’s laboratories are fully equipped for basic and applied biomedical research including advanced technologies for immunology, histopathology, and molecular biology. AHRI has internet and IT services and electronic access to international journals via HINARI.
We are now offering a position for a senior molecular biologist with the following requirements:
• PhD in molecular biology and at least 3 years post-doctoral experience
• Experience in genetic engineering of eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells, from vector design to recombinant protein expression and secretion
• Expression systems, design and analysis of high density sequencing data
• Solid understanding and use of bioinformatics tools
Special consideration will be given to candidates with significant work experience in developing countries, but any individuals with a strong interest in capacity building and teaching students are encouraged to apply. Existing or planned future links with established international partners is strongly desired. Both young and senior investigators may apply. A competitive salary and benefits package is available.
