LSTM welcomes applications for the inaugural Hemingway Fellowship in honour of previous director, Professor Janet Hemingway. The Fellowship will be offered in the areas related to vector biology and vector control.
The Janet Hemingway Fellowship, named in honour of the former Director of the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, provides support to an early career researcher in Vector Biology to establish themselves as an independent researcher.
The Fellow will be accorded the status of a Lecturer (equivalent to Assistant Professor) in the Department of Vector Biology and will also be eligible for entry into LSTM’s career track, a performance-based process that offers career posts (see https://www.lstmed.ac.uk/research/research-career-progression for more details). The successful candidate will have an excellent research profile and the potential to develop an international reputation in any area of Vector Biology and/or Vector Control. They will have a strong track record of high-quality publications with evidence of working across disciplines.
The Department of Vector Biology at LSTM is the largest of its kind with a broad portfolio of research and technical assistance activities targeted at improving the control of insect borne diseases; with particular strengths in the control of mosquito borne diseases and interests in other public health vectors, including ticks and tsetse flies. Our research portfolio encompasses all aspects of vector biology and control from genomics and transcriptomics to development, implementation and evaluation of vector control tools. The Janet Hemingway Fellowship may be held in any area related to vector biology and control.
Founded in 1898 and the oldest of its kind in the world, the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and research in tropical diseases. Through the creation of effective links with governments, NGOs, private organisations and global institutions and by responding to the health needs of communities, LSTM aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed/resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics.
