World TB Day Symposium 2018 – The Challenge of Antimicrobial Resistance

On 24 March, the world commemorates the day in 1882 when Dr Robert Koch announced his discovery of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. LSHTM take this opportunity each year to highlight contemporary research innovation and future challenges in a one-day symposium co-organised by LSHTM and UCL.
LSHTM/UCL will be holding our symposium on Friday 23 March at the John Snow Lecture Theatre at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and the programme will run throughout the day, with lunch provided. For those who can’t make it in person, all the talks will be streamed live on the day – but please still register and choose the ‘online’ ticket.
The theme for World TB Day 2018 is the challenge of antimicrobial resistant TB, and will include a debate that tackles the question: ‘do we need host-directed therapy if we have a universal drug regimen?’
By including presentations that cover a diverse range of topics (including: laboratory sciences, epidemiology, health economics, policy research and modelling) from world leaders in their field, the organisers aim to encourage discussion and debate around some of the most important themes in the fight against TB.
After the final session there will be a reception at a nearby pub.
