The Emory Vaccine Center (EVC) invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor level, tenure-eligible position in the broad fields of bacterial pathogenesis and antibiotic resistance, host interaction, and immunity. There will be particular interest in applicants focused on tuberculosis (TB), antibiotic resistance, and/or the microbiome.
We offer a highly interactive, collegial and collaborative research environment. The EVC has strong links with the Emory TB Center and Emory Antibiotic Resistance Center, and strengths in mechanisms of bacterial pathogenesis and antibiotic resistance, immunity to bacterial pathogens, and vaccinology. In addition to basic science, there is a significant focus on pre-clinical and translational research, which is bolstered by close links with the Yerkes National Primate Research Center and the Hope Clinic which houses a Vaccine and Treatment Evaluation Unit where human clinical studies are performed. There are broad collaborations between Emory’s basic scientists and clinicians within multiple departments in the School of Medicine including Microbiology and Immunology, Medicine-Infectious Diseases, Pathology, Biochemistry, as well as with faculty in the Biology, Chemistry, and Physics Departments. In addition, numerous faculty collaborate with members of the Biomedical Engineering Department which is a joint program with the Georgia Institute of Technology. Graduate education is robust at Emory and our faculty have access to multiple diverse graduate programs (www.biomed.emory.edu) and training grants. Our research facilities are state-of-the-art and include several new research buildings, biocontainment labs and numerous excellent core facilities (www.cores.emory.edu/eicf/index.html), including the Emory Integrated Proteomics Core, Emory Comprehensive Glycomics Core, Emory Gnotobiotic Animal Core, and the Emory Integrated Genomics Core. Our intellectual environment is enriched by proximity to and collaborations with the Georgia Institute of Technology, the Centers for Disease Control, and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
