Biography:
I am a Senior Scientist at the Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) in the department of Mycobacterial and Other Bacterial Diseases. She served as the head of the Mycobacterial Diseases department for the last 6 years (July 2017-July 2023). I have been actively involved in infectious diseases’ research mainly in tuberculosis and leprosy with particular interest in the area of immunodiagnostics. I have served as principal and co-investigator in several projects that include SEROSELECTB and PEP4LEP projects funded by EDCTP and the H3Africa TBGEN (“An integrated approach to unravelling susceptibility to tuberculosis in Africa”) project funded by Wellcome Trust.
Since 2020, I am serving as MPI for the Ethiopia-Emory TB Research Training program (EETB-RTP) funded by the NIH Fogarty International Center (FIC). I am also committed to research training and has served as a mentor for a number of Ph.D. and MSc students carrying out their research at AHRI. I have an interest in research ethics and previously served as secretary of the AHRI/ALERT IRB and a member in the National (Ethiopian) Ethics Review Committee.
