Biography:

Aminu Shittu is a veterinarian, epidemiologist, and lecturer at Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, Nigeria. His research encompasses the epidemiology of infectious diseases, zoonoses, and One Health approaches to disease control. He has some experience in analyzing large surveillance datasets to identify disease risk factors and inform public health interventions. His MSc research at the Royal Veterinary College, University of London, focused on bovine tuberculosis (bTB) in Great Britain, providing critical insights into diagnostic confirmation rates in slaughtered cattle. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals, and has contributed in understanding zoonotic diseases and infectious disease dynamics.

Aminu’s current research prioritizes vaccine development against tuberculosis, integrating One Health principles to address the disease at the human-animal-environment interface. His work also extends to antimicrobial resistance, diagnostic test evaluation, spatio-temporal modelling of infectious diseases, and farm animal welfare. As a Senior Collaborator with the Global Burden of Disease Study, he contributes to global health research, including analyses of TB burden and progress toward vaccine development goals. Committed to interdisciplinary collaboration and capacity building, particularly in low-and-middle income countries, Aminu Shittu aligns closely with VALIDATE’s mission to accelerate vaccine development for complex intracellular pathogens.
