We are looking for a Senior Fund Manager to lead the delivery of GCRF and Newton Fund working as part of the ODA Research Management Team which will support more than £2.2billion research and innovation spend for development over the spending review period. This role is an excellent opportunity to take a leading role in program management and supporting the development of strategy, policies and operations across both Funds.
Research and innovation (R&I) is at the heart of UK economic growth, the Industrial Strategy and an outward looking Global Britain. The ODA Research Management Team is part of the BEIS-led Research and Innovation Official Development Assistance (ODA) unit which is responsible for ensuring BEIS spend supports cutting-edge research to address the problems faced by developing countries and works to build science and innovation capacity in developing countries and the UK. The unit overseas two significant government ODA funds – the Newton Fund and Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF).
This role will be based in Swindon but will require regular travel to London.
Purpose:
The ODA Research Management Team works closely with the newly established ODA Programme Management Office and the ODA Research Policy and Strategy Team in BEIS and reports directly to the Head of ODA Research and Innovation. The team is responsible for the co-ordination of the delivery of BEIS ODA funds, working closely with UK delivery partners, Newton In-Country teams (ICTs) and wider BEIS ODA team.
This post will be responsible for leading the program management and coordination of the Newton Fund and GCRF, and the co-ordination of the In-Country teams and supporting the development of policy.
The post will have two direct reports, the Fund Manager and the In-Country Team Manager and will include line management of these reports.
You will:
- lead active management of the Newton Fund, capacity building, working with ICTs and delivery partners. Central monitoring and oversight of Newton delivery with flexibility in delivery to respond to new and unforeseen challenges, including managing in country challenges to ensure delivery and redistribution of funds, under and overspend etc.
- lead on management and development of the In-Country teams
- have close engagement with Newton and GCRF UK Delivery Partners’ activities and other key stakeholders in the ODA research landscape, and facilitating knowledge sharing across these to best support coherence and complementarity of ODA R&I funds
- contribute to the development and Strategy of the Fund.
Given the nature of the role, an ability to foster a collaborative, collegiate approach across virtual teams in support of collective working will be needed.
