Biography:

My research primarily focuses on understanding the complex interactions between HIV and tuberculosis (TB), with a specific emphasis on the immunopathogenesis of TB meningitis (TBM) in individuals living with HIV. I have explored the prevalence and antimicrobial resistance patterns of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among pregnant women living with HIV providing insights into co-infection dynamics and resistance mechanisms. Currently, I am engaged in TB research, where I process clinical samples to investigate immune responses, particularly T cell and neutrophil phenotypes, and cytokine profiles in blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). My main research interests involve investigating the immune mechanisms driving disease progression and treatment outcomes in HIV-associated TB. I aim to identify immune biomarkers that can improve TBM diagnosis, monitor treatment responses, and potentially guide host-directed therapies. Through my future postdoctoral studies, I aspire to contribute to the development of targeted interventions that address the dual burden of HIV and TB, particularly in high-prevalence settings like South Africa.
