Biography:
Breno Luiz Pimenta dos Santos is a PhD candidate in Health Sciences at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil. His research focuses on developing innovative therapeutic and immunotherapeutic strategies against Leishmania spp., integrating recombinant vaccine design, nanostructured drug delivery systems, and blue LED phototherapy. With a strong background in parasitology and immunology, he has worked on both Leishmania and Trypanosoma cruzi infection models, exploring host–pathogen interactions and immunomodulation. He is currently a member of the Laboratory of Biotechnology Applied to the Study of Leishmaniases (UFMG), where he conducts preclinical studies aimed at identifying new vaccine candidates and therapeutic compounds for visceral and tegumentary leishmaniasis. His broader research interests include experimental vaccinology, neglected tropical diseases, and translational approaches to global health challenges.
