Research Keywords: Mucosal Infection, Tissue Models, Inflammation, Mucosal Immunity Biography: Dr. Herrera is interested in mucosal infection and inflammation. Using ex vivo tissue models, she studies mucosal responses during transmission of HIV/SIV, HCV, and Zika virus. With these primary tissue models, she also pre-clinically evaluates prevention strategies, including pre-exposure prophylaxis and vaccine candidates. Dr. Herrera has recently expanded the potential of the ex vivo models to investigate inflammation and associated diseases.
