Biography:

As a BSc Honors student in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Zimbabwe, my research interests focus on the scientific validation of traditional African herbal medicine for the treatment and prevention of infectious diseases, particularly those targeted by the VALIDATE network. I am fascinated by the potential of African medicinal plants to provide novel leads for vaccines and therapeutics against Mycobacteria, Leishmania spp, and Burkholderia pseudomallei. For centuries, traditional healers in Africa have used plant-based remedies to treat diseases that are likely caused by these pathogens, and I believe that a scientific investigation of these remedies could uncover new opportunities for drug discovery and development.

My research aims to apply modern pharmaceutical approaches to investigate the efficacy, safety, and mechanisms of action of African traditional herbal medicines against these target diseases. By exploring the bioactive compounds and molecular mechanisms underlying the therapeutic effects of these remedies, I hope to identify promising leads for further development into effective vaccines and therapeutics. Through my research, I aim to contribute to the VALIDATE network's mission to accelerate vaccine research and development for these complex neglected diseases, and to promote sustainable healthcare solutions in Africa.
