Tuberculosis (TB)
Biography:
A quarter of the world’s population is infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. However, small proportion (5–10%) will develop TB disease during their lifetime. Tuberculosis disease progression from latent stage to active pulmonary TB takes a very along time. With a rapid progression of Tuberculosis, a person develops Tuberculosis within 1-3 years. Tracking specific strains of Mtb circulating in the community is important to curb the spread of TB in communities. When we know the circulating strain in the community it makes easy to investigate potential vaccine for the Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. To develop a potential vaccine for tuberculosis it is better to know the molecular character of the bacteria.
This study aims to identify Molecular characteristic of Mycobacterium tuberculosis strain circulating in Ethiopia. Secondly the study will reveal the transmission dynamics of the bacteria among contacts if infectious tuberculosis index cases. And investigate potential vaccine for tuberculosis in central Ethiopia. Based on the molecular characterization of the bacteria the study aims to see the messenger RNA of the bacteria if it indicates some clue to vaccine development.
