Biography:
Getu Diriba is a biomedical scientist and senior researcher at the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI), specializing in tuberculosis (TB) diagnostics, molecular epidemiology, and drug resistance. His research focuses on improving the detection and understanding of drug-resistant TB using molecular and genomic tools. He has led and co-authored several studies assessing the performance of diagnostic assays, characterizing resistance patterns to first- and second-line anti-TB drugs.
His current research interests include the molecular characterization of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex and non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM), assay evaluation, and the integration of genomic data into national surveillance systems. Through his work, he aims to strengthen evidence-based TB control strategies in Ethiopia and globally by bridging laboratory research with clinical and public health applications.
