Biography:

Diabetes mellitus (DM) poses an escalating global threat, projected to impact 783 million individuals by 2045. DM amplifies the risk of infection, particularly in low/middle-income countries (LMICs), where infectious diseases like tuberculosis and melioidosis are rampant. Diminished vaccine efficacy in DM individuals is a concern, potentially linked to immune dysfunction. Thus, I am interested in exploring the immune response and function in DM individuals, especially those with acute melioidosis infection, to delineate the immune marker that may correlate with protection. By exploring the signature, I hope we can develop a vaccine that can help improve the immune response to Burkhodelia pseudomallei, especially in DM individuals.
