Biography:
My research interest is investigating natural product (medicinal plants) testing their potential to immunomodulate the key cells (macrophages) that get infected by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. I test the ability of cells to resist manipulations by the bacteria, where the cell switches to a phenotype (M2) that is ineffective in the degradation and destruction of the bacterium. Medicinal plants tested have displayed sound immunomodulatory effects on these cells, where I observed the switching from M0 to M1 phenotype, which can destroy the bacteria through the intracellular nitric oxide pathway.
