Biography:
Dr Mebrat Ejo is a researcher working at the Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) in Ethiopia, trained in molecular biology and biomedical sciences. His research interests include genetic epidemiology and transmission dynamics of M. tuberculosis complex infections, particularly looking at host-pathogen interactions to uncover further insights that can guide the development of novel interventions, such as diagnostics, vaccines and/or drugs. In addition, his research aims to uncover the molecular mechanisms underlying drug resistance, with an emphasis on multi-drug resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) TB, and to better understand how genetic diversity influences TB transmission, virulence, and treatment outcomes. His work has been published in several peer-reviewed journals, and he has contributed to the growing body of knowledge on tuberculosis and its resistance patterns in eastern and western Africa.
