Biography:
Dr OHOUKO expertise includes Animal health and Production, Antimicrobial Resistance, Pharmacology and Vaccines development, and the epidemiology of infectious livestock diseases, with a strong emphasis on African swine fever (ASF) in West Africa. He has led and contributed to multidisciplinary projects that integrate field epidemiology, molecular diagnostics, and ethnopharmacology to understand ASF dynamics and explore plant-based therapeutic solutions.
As principal investigator on a USDA–CRDF Global–funded ASF surveillance and sampling project in Benin, he has collaborated with U.S. researchers to characterize ASF virus strains, contributing to the first report of genotype II in the country. His work increasingly aligns with vaccine development, including evaluating alternative strategies to support immunization research and preparedness. He is deeply interested in vaccines development, integrating traditional veterinary medicine with modern diagnostic and control strategies to enhance animal health and productivity in resource-limited settings.
His long-term goal is to strengthen livestock resilience in Africa through innovative, evidence-based solutions that reduce reliance on antibiotics and align with sustainable agriculture and One Health principles.
