Biography:
ICMR Research Scientist-I (Postdoctoral Fellow) at the Centre for Molecular Neurosciences, KMC-MAHE, Manipal, Rajarshi Bhattacharya completed his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Molecular Microbiology at Visva-Bharati University, Sontiniketan. His doctoral work, conducted under Prof. Swadesh Ranjan Biswas, centered on drug formulation and biomedical applications, including antimicrobial resistance in bowel disease through genome editing approaches.
Currently, Rajarshi is undergoing postdoctoral training under Dr. Somasish Ghosh Dastidar at MAHE, Manipal, where his research focuses on neurodegeneration, with a special emphasis on neuro-melioidosis. His postdoctoral studies explore mitochondrial biology, proteasomal degradation, and chaperone systems in neuro-melioid disorders. With extensive experience in mice experiments, he also works with mammalian cell lines, primary neuronal and glial cells, and induced pluripotent stem cells to test scientific hypotheses. Proficient in CRISPR/Cas9-based functional genomic screening, Rajarshi applies his expertise to discover genetic targets and pathways for neurodegenerative conditions. With over six years of research experience in microbiology, cell biology, and molecular biology, his current work is dedicated to understanding aging and neurodegenerative diseases.
