Biography:
Rouxjeane Venter is an early-career tuberculosis (TB) researcher and project manager in the Division of Molecular Biology and Human Genetics at Stellenbosch University. Her work focuses on understanding the infectiousness of TB through aerosol-based research and assessing novel diagnostics, particularly non-sputum approaches such as tongue swabs, aerosol facemasks, and used GeneXpert cartridges, with the aim of improving early detection of TB, especially drug-resistant TB. She leads and co-leads multiple clinical and translational studies, often in collaboration with international partners, and has a strong track record in grant writing, research management, and teaching. Passionate about bridging the gap between laboratory innovation and real-world application, she also drives societal engagement initiatives, including creative outreach projects like virtual-reality TB awareness films and interactive community campaigns. She is committed to training the next generation of scientists, mentoring students, and building networks that strengthen TB research capacity in South Africa and globally.
