Biography:

Dr. Sukanta Chowdhury is currently working as Scientist and Team Lead for One Health Research Group (OHRG), Programme for Emerging Infections, Infectious Diseases Division, icddr,b (www.icddrb.org). Dr. Chowdhury is a veterinary epidemiologist having more than 10 years research experiences in emerging infections. Dr Chowdhury is involved in multiple zoonotic diseases research projects. Most of his research works focus in avian influenza, AMR and One-health. Dr. Chowdhury is also engaged in other emerging diseases research including Nipah virus, rabies, anthrax, melioidosis, campylobacteriosis, food safety and AMR. Dr. Chowdhury received PhD in epidemiology. Dr. Chowdhury is the principal investigator of ongoing melioidosis and avian influenza surveillance in Bangladesh. and He has published more than 25 research articles in the peer reviewed journal as a first author and co-author. Dr. Chowdhury acts as a member of the North South University Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) to provide expertise on matters of animal health and welfare, including proper use of laboratory animals in public health research. Dr. Chowdhury serves as an Academic Editor of PLOS Global Public Health journal. Dr. Chowdhury’s primary research interests are epidemiology, infectious diseases surveillance, antimicrobial drug resistance, food safety, public health advocacy, and One Health issues. A diverse group of researchers from veterinary, medical, epidemiology, microbiology, parasitology, anthropology, sociology and statistics are working together in Zoonotic Diseases Research Group to estimate disease burden, exploring transmission dynamics and identifying risk factors at the human–animal interface through a One Health approach.
