Biography:
I am Dr. Sundeep Chaitanya Vedithi, a molecular biologist and immunologist specializing in leprosy and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). I currently hold dual roles as Senior Research Associate at the Department of Medicine, University of Cambridge, and Senior Director for Research and Innovation at American Leprosy Missions (ALM) (name changed to Hope Rises International recently), USA. With over 15 years of experience, my work focuses on bridging molecular science, structural biology, and real-world health innovation.
At Cambridge, I lead research on structure-guided fragment-based drug discovery, targeting Mycobacterium leprae and other pathogens. I also serve as Principal Investigator on several international projects, developing and validating mobile qPCR and sequencing tools for skin NTD diagnostics. These include handheld devices for the early detection of nerve damage in leprosy, multiplex assays for co-endemic NTDs, and field-deployable tools for rapid pathogen detection. Through my role at Hope Rises International, I guide global research strategy, focusing on point-of-care diagnostics, antimicrobial resistance surveillance, and AI-powered genomics. I co-lead efforts across Africa and Southeast Asia to deploy innovative sequencing platforms that strengthen surveillance of leprosy drug resistance.
