Biography:
Dr. Veronica is a Senior Researcher in Public Health at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), where she leads the Human Immunology research line at the Leprosy Laboratory of the Oswaldo Cruz Institute. With over 20 years of experience in translational immunology, her scientific career is dedicated to understanding host immune responses in neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), with a particular focus on leprosy. She holds a BSc, PhD, and postdoctoral training from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), and currently leads multiple multidisciplinary projects, including a Phase 1b/2a clinical trial for LepVax, a candidate vaccine for leprosy. Her research integrates genomic analyses and human ex vivo models to identify therapeutic targets and biomarkers for immune-mediated complications such as ENL. Dr. Veronica is also deeply committed to mentoring young scientists and promoting equitable international scientific collaboration.
