Monthly Update, October 2023

Welcome to the VALIDATE Monthly Update for October 2023. In this issue, we have some exciting news from the UN General Assembly, we give you access to the VALIDATE Hub, and we report on a very successful showcase of VALIDATE’s PhD Students
VALIDATE Hub – Now available to all members
VALIDATE has officially launched the VALIDATE Hub, and it is great to see so many members using this valuable resource. This hub resource offers access to our event video archive and other useful materials. If you have signed the VALIDATE CDA, you should already have received details on how to log in to the Hub. However, please do get in touch if you need help: VALIDATE@ndm.ox.ac.uk

United Nations General Assembly agrees plan to eliminate TB
On 22 September, the UN High-Level Meeting on TB, member states approved a plan to end tuberculosis worldwide within five years.
Led by the World Health Organization, the new initiative aims to reach 90% of the global population with TB prevention services and to license a new TB vaccine by 2027.

VALIDATE One Health Workshop – Event Report
As we have previously reported, the VALIDATE One Health in TB and Leishmaniasis Workshop in Paarl, South Africa, brought together 34 members and experts from around the world to explore the One Health approach in developing responses to TB and Leishmaniasis.
You can find a report on the event on the One Health Workshop webpage.
VALIDATE PhD Showcase
On 12 September, VALIDATE was excited to host 8 PhD students, each of whom gave a short 8-minute talk to over 35 attendees. After each talk, the audience grilled each speaker in a Q&A session. Once the presentations were over, speakers were placed into breakout rooms with VALIDATE Investigators who provided feedback on their short talks.
Present at the next PhD Showcase: The event was such a success, we plan to do another in the future. If you are a PhD student and would like to present at a future Showcase, please complete our PhD Showcase Presenter Application Form.
