VALIDATE Pump-priming and Training Grants - Apply now!

Thanks to our Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation funding, VALIDATE has opened two new grant opportunities for members working on TB:

Pump-priming grants (deadline 7 March 2022)

Pump-priming grants are available for projects of up to £50,000 (plus up to 15% indirect costs) via competitive application. Projects should run for a maximum of 12 months and should lead to relevant and useful data for the field, or produce pilot data that will lead to a larger grant application to an external funder. Projects must be scientifically excellent, and fall within the VALIDATE remit.

Please note that for this pump-priming call, only research focused on tuberculosis vaccine development is eligible. Any aspect of research that will accelerate the development of an efficacious TB vaccine is eligible, including biological, physical and social sciences, and humanities.

Awards are open to all VALIDATE (and CTVD) members, but projects must be led by a VALIDATE Associate (or CTVD Early Career Researcher). All collaborators must be VALIDATE or CTVD members.

We particularly welcome projects including any of the following: new collaborations between VALIDATE and/or CTVD members, projects involving collaborators from more than one institute, projects including Early Career Researchers, projects with industry involvement, cross-discipline research, projects promoting the One Health agenda, in vivo research, and translational research.

Please note this is the only planned VALIDATE pump-priming call, unless we obtain further funding.

Please visit our website for further details on this call.

Training grants (deadline 7 March 2022)

Early Career Researcher training grants are available of up to £3500, to help researchers take advantage of training opportunities that will contribute to their continuing professional development. This can include (but is not limited to): attendance at courses or workshops, laboratory exchanges, and work shadowing. Attendance at an international conference to present a talk or poster is also eligible for LMIC members.

The proposed training opportunity must fall within the VALIDATE remit. Please note that for this call only research focused on tuberculosis vaccine development is eligible. Any aspect of research that will accelerate the development of an efficacious TB vaccine is eligible, including biological, physical and social sciences, and humanities.

Applicants must be an Associate member of VALIDATE (and/or a post-doctoral scientist working on research directly related to TB vaccine development nominated by a CTVD member). We particularly welcome applications from researchers based in LMICs.

We will have four training grant call opportunities in 2022-2023 (see our website for details).

Please visit our website for further details on this call.

Q&A Sessions

We will be running two virtual Q&A sessions where you can ask any questions you have about the VALIDATE Pump-priming and Training Grant calls.

  • 1000 GMT, 6 January 2022
  • 1600 GMT, 11 January 2022

Please contact VALIDATE if you would like to attend, to be sent the meeting link - validate@ndm.ox.ac.uk

Other Pathogens

We realise that these calls being only for TB research will be disappointing to our non-TB focused members. The VALIDATE Management Team highly value the cross-pathogen USP of VALIDATE and we are continuing to pursue all avenues for further funding that can focus on our other three pathogen researchers as well.
