We hope all of our members are looking forward to a productive and enjoyable 2022! We have some exciting plans for the year and we will be in touch as we finalise them.
VALIDATE Mentoring Scheme 2022
Our mentoring scheme 2022 call is now open - and open to all VALIDATE Associates and early PI Investigators. As part of VALIDATE’s aim to encourage Continued Professional Development and career progression amongst members, we have a mentoring scheme in which we partner post-doctoral researchers / early PIs with Senior Scientist mentors from within VALIDATE. Requesting a mentor is open to scientists from all regions but we particularly welcome applications from LMIC scientists.
To be eligible to apply, you must be a VALIDATE Associate or Investigator. Each mentoring relationship will run for 12 months from May 2022. Please note this is our final planned mentoring call. - MRC Clinical research training fellowship - Apply for funding to undertake a PhD or to reacquire research skills. Your research can focus on any area of MRC’s remit to improve human health - deadline: 12 January 2022
- NIH Mechanisms of Mycobacterial-Induced Immunity 2022 - To support innovative studies to identify and understand the immune responses that mediate protection from Mtb infection or progression to active TB disease - deadline for applications: 14 Jan 2022
- MRC Experimental Medicine Funding Call - Addressing gaps in our understanding of the causes, progression and treatment of human disease through experimental intervention, or challenge, in humans - deadline: 19 January 2022
- TWAS-COMSTECH Science in Exile PhD Fellowship Programme for Displaced and Refugee Scientists - The Programme aims to provide displaced and refugee scholars and scientists who have not yet found a safe and long-term host country to pursue doctoral studies in Pakistan - deadline: 28 January 2021

We promoted the CISM Website, Laura Portwood-Stacer shared the key components of a scholarly book proposal and we congratulated our former Network Co-Director Helen Fletcher as she takes up her new role with Johnson and Johnson Global health. WriteThatPhD had some advice for writing your first research proposal, the basics of research, finding momentum to start writing, writing strong journal and conference abstracts, and shared 6 virtues to guide researchers. Nature careers had some recruitment advice for institutions, shared a story about anxiety and stress becoming the norm for PhD Students, a guide for developing industry links, and advice for communicating with your PhD Advisor.
