Weekly Round-up #151
VALIDATE BCG100 Programme - 1st Public Talk 'BCG Then and Now'
2021 is the 100th anniversary of the first use of the BCG vaccine - 100 years on this is still the only licensed vaccine against tuberculosis (TB), a situation that requires urgent action and which VALIDATE and its members are trying to remedy. To celebrate this centenary, VALIDATE will be running a BCG100 programme of events throughout 2021, and our very first exciting public talk is coming up on 24 March 2021 and is open to all.
In 'BCG Then and Now', Prof Paul Fine (LSHTM) & Prof Helen McShane (VALIDATE Director at the University of Oxford) will take us on a journey from the initial development of the BCG vaccine in 1921 to the modern-day fight against TB and the future challenges researchers face in replacing BCG with a more effective vaccine.
This online talk is open to all and is very much aimed at introducing the general public to this topic and we hope everyone will find BCG's origin story of enormous interest! You can find out further details about the talk, speakers and how to join at www.validate-network.org/bcg100-lecture. Please do share this link with your network, on social media and with anyone you think might be interested in joining the talk.
