In other news this week:
Our Network Manager Samantha Vermaak attended the 9th EDCTP Forum last week, where she gave a talk in the Vaccines for Neglected Diseases session about the VALIDATE Network and our connected approach to expediting vaccine R&D for tuberculosis, leishmaniasis, leprosy and melioidosis. There were many interesting speakers and talks at the Forum, as well as the official launch of the TB Vaccine Development Pathway website developed by TBVI, Aeras and other stakeholders. This will be a very useful tool for our community, so do take a look at the website.
We also joined our sister network IMPRINT's 2nd Annual Meeting in Kingston upon Thames, UK on Tuesday 25 September where Sam gave another presentation outlining VALIDATE's remit, aims and the benefits of VALIDATE membership.

On twitter this week: The new WHO Global TB Report is out, showing that TB is still the world's deadliest infectious disease; AERAS highlighted their two key asks for the UNHLMTB; the 2018 Annual Conference of the NTD NGO Network is being held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 24-26 Sep; watch Professor Heidi Larson give her lecture entitled: "Enlightenment upside down?: The science of risk and rumour in global health" at LSHTM; read the meeting report on the 5th Global Forum on TB vaccines in Tuberculosis journal by VALIDATE members Rachel Tanner and Hazel Dockrell; and the StopTB Partnership, Johnson & Johnson, UN Foundation, Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, and the World Economic Forum co-hosted a TB Innovation Summit in NYC on 23 Sept.
Follow us on Twitter @NetworkVALIDATE to keep up to date.
Finally, our thoughts are with all of those (including VALIDATE Co-Director Helen Fletcher) attending today’s UN General Assembly first ever High Level Meeting on TB. We hope that the meeting will lead to the much needed higher prioritisation of TB research and treatment by Heads of State and funding institutions around the world. 1.7m people still die of TB every year – this is unacceptable and needs to change.
