Weekly round-up #42
Weekly round-up #42
It's been a busy week with the launch of 3 workshops, and registration opening for our 2nd Annual Meeting!
The 2018 Annual Meeting will be held in York, UK, from 6-7 November, with two of the workshops forming part of this Annual Meeting:
- 5th November - "Post-doc'ing for success" workshop for our Early Career Researchers to widen and improve the non-technical skills necessary to progress your careers
- 7th November - "The Social Technology Lab", a workshop for all members around enhancing vaccine efficacy using social protection interventions. The Social Tech Lab is an output from our pump-priming project "Enhancing BCG efficacy: the Social Technology Lab Initiative", and promises to be an interesting event that we encourage members of all levels to join.
Our 1st Annual Meeting in 2017 was a great success, and the 2018 Annual Meeting is going to be no different. The meeting will provide opportunities to hear updates from the funded pump-priming projects, to network with VALIDATE members and form new (and strengthen old!) collaborations, to formulate new pump-priming project ideas, and to meet our industry partners. The programme, venue details, and registration documents are all on the Annual Meeting webpage; registration for the Annual Meeting and the two associated workshops closes on 1 October 2018.
On the Annual Meeting page you an also find our call for abstracts for the Annual Meeting (for Early Career Researchers and Industry Partners), as well as our travel scholarship details and application process. Our travel scholarships offer up to £3,000 to cover LMIC members' costs to attend the Annual Meeting. These calls both close 10 Sept so don't delay in submitting your applications!
The third workshop we announced this week is a joint initiative by the five GCRF Vaccine Networks (IVVN, Bactivac, IMPRINT, Hic-VAC and VALIDATE) to host a Veterinary and Human Vaccinology Workshop for Early Career Researchers that will be held from 3-7 December 2018 in Bangkok. VALIDATE is offering to fund up to five of our members to attend - applications must be received by 9th September, and can be made via the Vaccinology workshop webpage. You can find out about any workshops we're running on our workshops webpage.
Meanwhile the campaign continues to encourage Heads of State and Government around the world to attend the 1st ever UN High Level Meeting on TB in September. Bill Gates confirmed on the 2nd Aug that he will attend, and on Aug 6th The Times ran a letter from 130 UK academics (including our co-Directors Helen McShane and Helen Fletcher) urging Theresa May to attend. You can read all about this campaign and how you can help (quickly and unpainfully!) here.
