VALIDATE One Health Seminars 2023

In September 2023, we hosted a gathering of VALIDATE Network members and experts in Paarl, South Africa. Together, we explored the One Health model in responding to the challenges of Tuberculosis (TB) and Leishmaniasis. “One Health” is an interdisciplinary approach that acknowledges the essential relationship between human health, animal health, and environmental health.

Each of the talks was excellent, and we felt that we would share some of them with the wider VALIDATE Community. The seminars will involve two presentations each and take place on Zoom in November and December.

Seminar One: 15 November 2023, 15:00 GMT

Our first seminar will feature Dr Richard Burchmore (University of Glasgow, UK) and Dr Maria Adelaida Gomez (CIDIEM, Colombia). Richard will outline the opportunities and limitations of Omic approaches and give some examples of how they can be applied in the diagnosis and control of NTD and Adelaida will reflect on the impacts of antileishmanial use in the context of water pollution and cultural practices in endemic populations, and highlight challenges and opportunities for leishmaniasis control across human, animal, and environmental health domains.
