Weekly round-up

Weekly round-up

It's been a busy couple of weeks at VALIDATE!

It's a huge mountain to climb to develop vaccines against leishmaniasis, TB, leprosy and melioidosis, so it's great that new members have been signing up to join the VALIDATE team. Welcome to our first Associates, Dr Paulo Bettencourt, and Assistant Profs Andrea Zelmer and Steven Smith; you can read more about them on their members' pages. We've also added a new country to our Network, and so extend a big welcome to new Investigator Prof Gerhard Walzl from Stellenbosch University, as well as our first Affiliate member, Simon Mendelsohn, from SATVI, both in South Africa. They bring us up to 42 members from 26 institutes in 11 countries. We're only as good as our members, so it's great that so many people are joining the cause to work together to find new vaccines against these four deadly diseases.

On our external funding page you'll also find a couple of new calls that may interest our members:

  1. Academy of Medical Sciences' Global Challenges Research Fund Networking Grants for international networking events to promote new interdisciplinary collaborations (closing 6 Sept)
  2. Newton Researcher Links for UK-Philippines Early Career Researcher collaborations (closing 19 Sept)
  3. Science by Women's six-month Visiting Senior Research Fellowships for female African researchers to visit a Spanish Centre of Excellence (closing 20 Sept)

We've also highlighted some interesting articles on our Twitter account (@NetworkValidate) for followers there.

Finally, don't forget to register for our first annual meeting on 5 & 6 September 2017 at St Hilda's College, Oxford. It promises to be an exciting launch with information about upcoming funding calls we'll be making for both pump-priming projects and for early career researcher training, as well as talks to stimulate research ideas and new collaborations, and networking opportunities - it's your chance to both meet other VALIDATE members and help steer the direction of our Network. Registration is only open to members, and is free and simple via our annual meeting page.

We look forward to seeing you there!
