Weekly Round-up #140

Mirvat Surakhy

Bioinformatics Support from VALIDATE

Did you know that VALIDATE can provide you with assistance with Bioinformatics? Dr Mirvat Surakhy is VALIDATE’s resident Bioinformatician and Computational Biologist and she is happy to help any VALIDATE member with their data - both with tricky analyses, and with finding and adding data to the VALIDATE data-sharing portal (which enables members to source comparison data sets). All data is, of course, discussed with Mirvat in confidence.

We have recently set up a new webpage which details the support Mirvat offers, how you can access the data portal, and some useful Bioinformatics training you can undertake if you want to improve your skills.

Find out more on the VALIDATE Bioinformatics Page.

Highlights on Twitter this week

We continued the VALIDATE Collaboration Week on Twitter by celebrating VALIDATE collaborations, including our training grants and a pump-priming project involving VALIDATE members in Mexico and the UK. The WHO released its TB Report 2020, and the African Academy of Science are looking for senior researchers to take part in their mentorship scheme. UKRI is recruiting members for their new ECR forum, and Nature promoted their funding-finder page. WHO shared a video about preventable diseases, and the Vaccine Confidence Project and UN launched #TeamHalo to highlight the inspiring global effort to develop safe and effective vaccines for the coronavirus - many of VALIDATE's members have worked on COVID-19 efforts during the pandemic. Our friends in the Gnatwork released a video with tips for grant applications, the Daily Maverick published an article comparing TB and COVID Vaccine Development, and Nature Careers shared thoughts on creating a Journal Club for equity in science.
