This position is a supervisory role for a good clinical laboratory practices (GCLP) compliant laboratory primarily evaluating cellular immune responses to HIV, SARS-CoV-2, malaria, and tuberculosis infections and vaccines. Responsibilities include directing complex studies, hiring, supervising and mentoring personnel, and maintaining an internationally recognized, GCLP-compliant laboratory of currently up to 15 personnel, including direct and indirect reports. This individual will plan and direct the development, validation and execution of assays to examine vaccine immunity and support product advancement (such as in go/no-go decisions). The Associate Director will also direct exploratory research projects to answer in-depth immunological questions related to these infectious diseases and the vaccine modalities, with a special emphasis on B and T cell immunology and biomarkers. They will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including HVTN/CoVPN leadership, academic scientists, clinical trial stakeholders, funders and industry partners.
