This post offers an exciting opportunity to join The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and to lead and shape the future of the Clinical Sciences Department. We are looking for the Head of Clinical Sciences to make a significant contribution to LSTM's strategic and operational development by working as part of the senior management team. This key post will play a pivotal role in promoting excellence and further enhancing our reputation as a world class institution.
As the Head of Department within the Deanery of Clinical Sciences and International Public Health, you will be responsible for providing a clear identity and strategic direction for the Department. You will have a strong record of achievement in research, strategic leadership and delivery at a senior level within the academic sector or similar environment. A research interest in Experimental Medicine or Tropical Clinical Trials would be particularly appropriate, but applicants with an interest in any aspects of clinically relevant research would be welcomed. You will be expected to have a clinical qualification and maintenance of clinical practice will be encouraged.You will need to possess the intellectual credibility to effectively lead and inspire your department to drive forward a high quality and internationally renowned research portfolio. As a proven leader, you will provide a stimulating, collegial and professionally managed environment to support the integration of excellent teaching, research and business activities.
Ideal candidates will have a demonstrable track record of achievement in creating and developing a substantial portfolio of clinical research relevant to international health studies, coupled with a strong track record of obtaining internationally competitive research grant funding. You will also be someone of considerable academic standing who can quickly command respect, both within LSTM and internationally.
LSTM is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for research in tropical diseases. Through the creation of effective links with governments, organisations and institutions and by responding to the health needs of communities, LSTM aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed/ resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics. LSTM also has close relationships with all of the local NHS trusts.
