The post holder will support the day to day activities of the non-vesicular reference laboratories (NVRL) at the Pirbright Institute within a large multi-disciplinary team. The post-holder will be working in our high-containment facilities with SAPO-4 viruses and must comply with all biosafety procedures. The NVRL comprises six OIE reference laboratories. The post holder will report to the technical manager who will oversee the day to day workload and ensure that the quality management system (ISO/IEC 17025) is maintained.
The primary purpose of the NVRL is to provide a national and international diagnostic service and to characterise outbreaks of certain viral diseases that have a strong predisposition for trans-boundary spread including African horse sickness, African swine fever virus (ASFV), bluetongue, capripox and peste des petits ruminants virus. The NVRL provides support to other research groups within the institute relating to the development of tests, epidemiology and control of viral diseases as well as validation work for external customers.
