2 POSTDOC POSITIONS at the University of Tokyo, Japan Application due: by the end of July 2021 Project Description: The Vaccine Design Center, headed by Prof Ken J. Ishii an expert in vaccine design and safety, will newly be launched at the University of Tokyo, the Institute of Medical Science (IMSUT). This new Vaccine Center aims at translational vaccine research in humans and animal models by merging immunology, microbiology, bioinformatics and regulatory science, to prevent diseases such as infection, allergy and cancer. Due to pandemic by Covid19, vaccines against infectious diseases once again become the most important aspect of the scientific field to help humankind. Therefore, particularly designing new vaccines against Covid19, influenza, malaria, tuberculosis and Leishmaniasis are the priorities of the Center.
Two postdoctoral scientist positions are available. The candidates will participate in the design and discovery of new vaccines and vaccine modalities as well as understanding their mechanism of action which would make better and safer vaccines for human use.
Host laboratory 1: The head of Vaccine Design Center, Prof. Ken J. Ishii, is one of the few experts in the vaccinology field. His laboratory at the Center located at Shirokanedai Campus of the University of Tokyo in the heart of Tokyo city provides an excellent scientific environment with access to healthy volunteers and patients and various transgenic mice with all required core facilities.
Host laboratory 2: Prof. Cevayir Coban is expert in parasite immunology especially in malaria field and will search vaccine candidates against malaria and Leishmaniasis. Her laboratory is located at Shirokanedai Campus of the University of Tokyo.
