The Universities UK International (UUKi) Rutherford Fund Strategic Partner Grants invite eligible institutions to set out how they would use a block grant of up to £150,000 to deliver a dynamic programme of research fellowships for early career researchers (ECRs). By funding individual ECR mobility within the framework of strategic partnerships, the aim is to catalyse longer term and interdisciplinary collaboration. The call does not have a specific geographic focus and is therefore open to researchers from any country, however priority countries have been identified for the scheme, and therefore applications to work with partners within these countries is particularly encouraged.
The outcomes of the Rutherford Fund Strategic Partner Grants scheme are expected to include:
- Enhanced research links between UK institutions and key strategic partners in a broad range of countries
- The development of new and improvement of existing research networks and links between future research leaders and the UK research community
- New opportunities for collaboration and joint working, and greater impact for existing collaborations
- Enhanced reputation of the UK and UK institutions in a broad range of countries
Proposals must be for £50,000-£150,000. UUKi expect to make in the region of 20-25 institutional awards. Applications are limited to one per institution. Research (and researchers) of any discipline can be funded through the programme, and fellowships can be for a maximum period of 12 months.
In terms of the programme of activity, potential fellows must:
- be non-UK nationals and be resident outside the UK at the point of application
- have a PhD and 0-10 years postdoctoral experience (allowances can be made for documented career breaks)
- be able to begin their programme of work no later than 31 March 2018
