A NRC postdoctoral position is available in Dr. David DeShazer’s laboratory for a highly motivated candidate interested in Burkholderia pseudomallei secretion systems, molecular pathogenesis and vaccine development. Dr. DeShazer is in the Bacteriology Division at USAMRIID in Frederick, MD. The laboratory is interested in characterizing novel virulence factors of B. pseudomallei, understanding the regulation of virulence factor gene expression and gaining a better understanding of the basic biology of this pathogen. The use of alternative models of infection to study bacterial pathogenesis is also a focus of the laboratory. In addition, they are interested in testing novel melioidosis vaccine candidates in animal models of infection. Ideal applicants will have:
· A Ph.D. degree in Microbiology with experience in molecular biology and bacterial pathogenesis
· At least two published first author papers and demonstrated verbal communication skills
· Experience working in a biosafety level-3 (BSL-3) laboratory
· Experience working with rodent models of infection
· Ability to communicate and work effectively with others
