This funding, previously known as the Provision for Public Engagement, helps Wellcome grantholders engage the public with their research.
Public engagement activities – where researchers share their ideas with the public and in return get new perspectives on their research – can inspire learning, enhance research and help to improve health.
Grants are for up to £250,000 or 5% of the funding awarded under your main Wellcome grant.
Who can apply
You can apply for Research Enrichment – Public Engagement funding if you have a proposal for a programme of activities to inspire, consult or collaborate with the public about your research.
You must be:
- a current Wellcome-funded grantholder who is a lead applicant from one of our eligible schemes
or
- a new applicant to one of our eligible schemes.
Your proposal
Your proposed programme of activities should include opportunities for you to:
- involve non-specialist audiences in dialogue and debate about your research area
- develop your public engagement practice.
The programmes and activities we support can take many forms, such as exhibitions, community festivals and working with artists.
